Car Travel in Nigeria
Hi, hope I’m ok to post here! We’re heading to Nigeria with our 6 month old next week to spend Christmas with family for 2 weeks. The only thing that’s causing me worry is the car seat situation, we won’t be travelling by car a huge amount but all my husbands family say I don’t need a car seat (I’ve been a few times before so know it’s common that little ones usually sit on laps) but coming from the UK where it’s law I’m really conflicted.
The airline is going to charge us £500 to take the car seat with us which is
a) a huge cost that we can’t really afford
b) I know they throw luggage around so worried about the safety of the seat
c) also from experience having a working seatbelt is hit & miss, this would mean we could potentially have an issue securing the car seat
For anyone who has been, what did you do about car travel?
Also - we don’t plan to take the pram as not sure we’ll use it but interested to hear if you did/didn’t take one

My dear you can buy a baby car seat over there or take your own (if you want to). As a Nigerian myself I know that Nigerians don’t obey laws including road laws. Drivers can be very rough so use the car seat so you don’t endanger your child. And just like @Smiling said, you can also take your baby carrier with you. Have a fun trip 😊
Thanks both! Do you know where I can buy in Nigeria, we asked my husbands friend to check and he couldn’t find anywhere selling them (he was in Benin)
@Georgia Nwabuko you can buy online from Jumia, Konga or any shoprite stores.
I think you will be fine😊, carry your baby carrier if you're not use to carrying baby on your back. It would be easier/cheaper to buy a carseat over there if you need one. Instead of paying £500 and not sure of the safety of transporting it.
