You should call them or go there to talk to them. I received an invoice with a charge for music session and when I asked what it was, I discover that my LO doesn't even attend those days. They removed it and sent me an updated invoice.
Could it be that the consumables charge is averaged out across the weeks that the nursery is open in a year so that you are billed consistently each month? I had similar confusion when my son started because the first invoice was higher than I expected as he was starting half way through a month. When I queried it they told me that they calculate the total cost of the hours/days attended over the 50 weeks of the year they are opened and divide it by 12 so that your bill is consistent each month and it avoids things like parents being invoiced for higher amounts during 5 week months. It could be that your nursery does the same with the consumables charge so for talkings sake, if your child attended 5 days per week they would add up the consumable charge for every day your son would be there in there chargeable weeks and divide it by 12? I don’t know if that makes sense xx
So essentially you’re not actually paying for days that the nursery is closed. For example our monthly fee is £1512. In December they close for 2 weeks and parents are not charged but our bill is still the same in December even though he only goes for half the time because the total annual cost is split equally across each month . If they didn’t do this then our December bill would be lower but the other months would be higher than what we are paying just now and higher again during 5 week months. It works out that we are just paying the exact same over a year as what we would pay if charged per use each month. X
@Baby 2 thank you! Would you also charge for holiday? I noticed although I have already paid Decembers invoice, that I have been charged the additional service charge for Christmas Day
@Chelsea the consumables are charged at an hourly rate of £2.75 per hour against the funded childcare hours (these have been pro rata to cover more weeks so allowance is only 11.7 rather than 15 a week)
@Chelsea my nursery charges on a monthly basis for the sessions your child is due to attend and due to this each months invoice varies depending on how many sessions are in that month
@Helena so we had to charge bank holidays but if it was holiday e.g. taking a family holiday somewhere we asked for minimum 4 weeks notice to not be charged. However, my son attended a nursery for a short time and they charged for bank holidays, sickness days and family holidays so it does seem to vary x
As a previous nursery manager, no I would not charge for consumables as they won't be used. Even if we had children off sick we had to charge the day fee but wouldn't charge them consumables that they aren't consuming. X
