Food and drink when ill

Any tips or ideas to get my son to eat and drink while he's ill?! He is feeling very poorly with a cough and cold and is refusing almost all food and drink. He is eating strawberries, blueberries, sweetcorn and a couple of baby crisp snacks. He ate a few spoons of yogurt and bit of banana yesterday but won't today. He normally has 2 bottles of milk and 2 cups of water a day but while he's been ill he is refusing all water and just having 3 bottles of milk instead. I've tried diluted apple juice, diluted summer fruits juice, orange juice, coconut water, out of different cups, mugs and with straws, he just won't even taste any of it 😓 He's napping a lot but I guess he has absolutely no energy cause he's not eating as well as feeling poorly

I’m in the Same situation

I put it into a calpol syringe and gave it to him like that and he seemed to take it

@Ella he won't let me anywhere near him with a syringe at the moment 😭 normally he loves Calpol from the syringe but now he won't have it so been mixing it in his milk!

My little girl was like this at the beginning of the week. Took her to the drs and turns out she has a chest infection. She's now starting to improve

Honestly as long as you are managing to get fluid down him I wouldn’t worry too much. My lo has been ill since Saturday (cold and sore throat plus chicken pox) and has only today eaten 3 proper meals. She has been living off of watermelon, really soggy rice crispies and milk since Saturday 😂. If you think about it sometimes when you are really unwell the last thing you want to do is eat. If you are really worried though go and see your gp.

One thing my little girl will take to when poorly is custard. Obviously not a ridiculous amount but I’m happy she’s at least having something and I offer extra milk to keep fluids up along with her water.

My little one has just spent the last 2 weeks poorly, finally better and back eating now. But he refused anything unless he was being spoon fed, he had next to no energy. So DR said look for high calorie stuff to help with energy, and just focus on trying to get him hydrated. It’s rough when they also won’t eat and they don’t understand why they need to eat! You could try watering down the milk to get more water in, but he will be getting hydrated and full from milk too. I hope he feels better by Xmas! X

As soon as my baby is poorly she won’t eat a thing. When this happens I just give her more milk if she will take it. When she hasn’t eaten a thing I will add powered full fat milk to her cows milk to bump the kcals up. (This was recommended from a dietician)
