Separation anxiety?!

My LO has had a hard time sleeping in his own bed for over 3 weeks now. We have a great routine and by 8-9 the latest he was asleep in his bed a d would sleep till 7-8 am. But here lately he’s just been fighting his naps, fighting his sleep and refusing to sleep in his crib. As soon as I bring him to my bed he instantly falls asleep, I really do think he may have some sort of separation anxiety as he doesn’t really play in his own much. He has to be next to me constantly. It’s been hard also due to the fact that my MIL doesn’t help by being consistent with his sleep routine as at home and they want him to sleep with them. Which really makes it harder on me and his dad. I am a full time college student and it’s been so hard these past few months as I am not able to get a great schedule going. Please help! Any advice or suggestions on how to help my LO. I feel like a terrible mom by refusing to co-sleep. But I am basically a single mom that’s in a relationship, but my partner isn’t good at helping me and I need those night hour to study and do homework.

My daughter went through the same thing about 2 months ago.. she would wake up multiple times at night crying just wanting to be held. I personally prefer not to co-sleep either so I completely understand that guilty feeling.. you’re doing what works for you, and there’s nothing wrong with that. When she’d wake up at night we would rock her and put her back in the crib when she was almost asleep and just kept patting her in the crib until she fell asleep. Instead of bringing her into our room, we just put a small mattress in her room next to her crib and I would sleep in there with her so that if she woke up again she could see that I was right there, and I would just pat her in the crib instead of picking her up. It took about 2 weeks for her to start sleeping through the night again

@Bianca thank you for that! At least I know there’s hope! Did you leave any nightlight on or just cool and dark room?

Oh yes, we have the hatch sound machine so I used the red light.. although I’m not sure if it actually helped because she would still wake up and cry, so we eventually just turned it off after the first few nights. Hang in there! I know it’s hard to see things through, but things will get better eventually 🤍

My son has been going through it. I’ve been cuddling him to get him ready to sleep. I give him his pacifier and his blanket. Lately he wants to bring Elmo with him too. We have a mattress we put on the floor and sometimes I’ll lay there until he falls asleep. But I try to do it only temporarily so he doesn’t get too used to it. I don’t co-sleep

@Bianca thank you so much!! I appreciate all the support! 🫶🏻✨

@Julia I just started doing this last night because our ac is down so we have a window unit in our main room while we get it fixed. But I don’t co-sleep either my anxiety doesn’t let me sleep if I know he’s in bed with us.
