Same, mine will be 3 February. She’s been in speech therapy for a few months (mixed receptive/expressive speech delay) and we’ve seen some good progress. I just wish there was more or I guess quicker. But I know it’s all about her pace. She’s not very interested in conversation unless she wants to talk and she has perfect hearing. She also understands things just fine. I’m looking to get her an autism evaluation to make sure that’s not causing it as well. She knows all her colors/numbers/etc and spits out words randomly but not consistently. I would say there’s an effect on her interactions with other kids because of speech, since she’s not saying full sentences consistently, it can be hard for them to communicate. But they tend to follow each other around and play just fine. That’s her only delay honestly
@Dai my son has completed delayed expressive speech and the speech and language therapist says once glue ear is resolved speech can make progress and I also know a few people who had it as a child and they have went on to live full normal lives. I would definitely see an ent first and rule it out before going down autism route
Download an app called speech blubs and also put on any YouTube video of their favourite thing and the word learning My kid is into monster trucks so I search monster truck learning and he chooses which ones he wants to watch and it teaches him vehicle names, colours, colour mixing, numbers.... then he re watches them and it helps him learn so much
@Shanice it’s nice he’s making such good progress! We’ve seen an audiologist and they said her ears were fine, nothing that would affect her ability for speech was seen. I wonder if that was included
@Dai so my speech and language therapist said they where only check sound going through the ear. Where as an ent have the machine that they put in their ear and if it has a peak it detects glue ear . So I would maybe ring the audiology department who done the test and ask did they check for glue ear also cause it affects the inner ear. It was the best thing we done for him . The surgeon said he had so much fluid in the ear he was surprised he could hear . And also the adenoids can also block the tube that runs from the ear to the throat to drain fluid. Cause my son knows about nearly everything but just can say what they are .
@Shanice I know they did put something in her ears when they went and she had to keep it in for some test. They did the first set of tests without headphones (since she wouldn’t sit still) and the next test with the piece in the ear. I will follow-up with them to see if that was what that was for specifically.
@Dai yes definitely do its worth a call so if they didn't check then you can get an appointment to have it ruled out and then go from there . Hope you get sorted
@Shanice checked in with audiologist and she said that wasn’t the case! So no glue ear for baby girl. Just a delay like I thought
@Dai at least they checked cause they don't always do . But at least now you know its been ruled out . Does she attend speech and language
@Shanice yes I said earlier she was in Speech therapy😊
We where the Same . My son seen speech and language for a year and then we seen someone different and the first thing they asked was has he had his ears checked but the Answer was no cause we had no cause to. So we paid for a private ent appointment and turned out he had glue ear .so he had his adenoids removed and gummets inserted into his ears . He also doesn't really play which kids I think it was because he couldnt really hear them to understand what they where saying but he seems to be interacting more . So we are hopeful as he has only had it done about 3 weeks
