Finger sucking

My LO is 6 months and has never taken a dummy, since 3 months he discovered his fingers and sucks on his 2 fingers to soothe himself, they’re constantly in his mouth, it’s how he self settles to go to sleep too. I feel like it’s ok as a baby but I’m terrified of him still doing it when he’s older and getting picked on as I never see other babies/children sucking their fingers. It’s not like a dummy that can be taken away. Has anyone else got a finger sucker or had one who stopped and can share their story to make me feel better please 😭

I have a finger sucker. He doesn't do it a whole lot but almost every day. I'm sure you can train them not to do it. I'll worry about it later 😜

@Susie thank you, I know I’m worrying about something that hasn’t even happened yet but that’s just me as a person 🤣 I just worry as he’s always sucking on them and everyone always comments on it 😢

Well it's natural for some babies to do that, they just like to suck 😹

My little one sucks his fingers as well. We tried with dummies but he's not over bothered with them. He's been sucking his finger more recently now that he's teething. I'm hoping we can get him to stop as he gets a bit older. I was a thumb sucker and my mum had a nightmare getting me to stop.

My little boy used to do this - was so cute, he stopped doing it though when he reached maybe a year old or just a bit after ! I was so sad when he stopped because it was just adorable!!

My daughter was a finger sucker from day one and my midwife advised me to give her a dummy which I did. She said that finger aucking can also make them take in air and give them a tummy ache. I don't know if this was true, I just did what she advised

Please stop them as soon as you can... Coming from a 31 year old who still sucks her fingers because everyone thought it was cute so didn't stop me as a child. I have tried everything to stop but I just can't, it's a comfort thing

I could have written this post myself, I really want to stop my little boy as he does it all the time and don’t want him doing it when he’s older 😭
