@Jules is this formula? The guidance says 5 times a day at 120ml for 2-4 week old which I am finding impossible as he is waking and rooting for food at least 8 times a day! Are you finding your little one is throwing up a lot of it or keeping that much down?
@Kati completely my problem way over the guidance ready for his 120 every 3 hours 🙈
Interesting the formula says that I guess that’s every 4 hours over a 24 hour period Sometimes we do 3 hours sometimes 4 depending on when she signals for it xx
Also just over 4 weeks, and on 120 - 150mls every 3 hours. I was beginning to think I was over feeding, but I guess it's fine!?
Yeah defo, want to up his intake to try and get him to sleep etc for longer and feel fuller but he’s still feeding 3 hours and sometimes even 2 or 2 and a half! Also he is sick far more now since we moved to 120ml so do you think I should stick to 90ml now while he’s still feeding so frequently?
@Phoebe sometimes ours signals at 2 or 2 and a half hours, especially through the night! Not sure what’s best to do in this scenario?
My little girl is on 120ml during the day every 3 hours. During the night 90ml as she doesn’t fully wake just winges so usually falls asleep before bottle has finished hence why we just do 90 as it goes to waste. X
I have a 6 week old and he is taking 150-180ml every 3-4 hours.he occasionally has a spit up, but he stops feeding once he is full. I think it’s so important to remember all babies are different and the feeding amounts on formula packets are a guide. Try not to get stuck on numbers. I did with my first son and quickly learnt if he was hungry, nothing was going to calm him down until he was fed.
My 3 weeks old has 4oz expressed milk per bottle 😅
@Emma ours is exactly same age & same amounts! She doesn’t throw it up and we checked with HV who said if she’s hungry feed her, some babies need more some less!
@Kati yeh id drop the amount and feed more often, if he’s being sick I think that’s the best thing do offer 90mls instead and just follow his hunger cues xx
My 5 week old is on 5/6oz every 3hrs
Mines BF but starting to introduce some expressed and just tried with a mix of breast and formula just to introduce it incase he has to have it but Until recently all I had thought about was how much to give them each feed but never considered how often and how many hrs they have one and it makes perfect sense . So mine goes about 2-2.5 hrs would need less than a little one that goes 4 hrs. I do find it confusing and complicated but i think about it too much 🙈
Mine is on 2/3 formula 1/3 breast milk and he wants to eat every 2-2.5 hours this week. He’s having 3 or 4oz, way over the recommendation! The NHS Solid Starts website says to bottle feed newborns on demand but I will asking my HV as I was under the impression you could bottle feed a baby too much. I breastfed my first so it’s new to me!

@Kati Yes I’d stick to 90ml if being sick a lot, signals he might be having a bit too much. I’d check you’ve got the smallest teat size- on mam bottles you can buy ‘0’ teats which is extra slow flow, imagine it’s the same for most bottles and then also pace feed the bottles if not doing so already! X
@Elsha yes we’ve got the 0 flow ones, he still seems to guzzle so fast though so try to keep him upright or on side of cushion and bottle horizontal so less comes out!!
My almost 6 week old is on 6oz every 3.5 hrs to 4hrs At 4 weeks he was having 4oz to 5oz He rarely is sick or spits up and when he does it’s minimal, plus the minute he shows signs of not wanting anymore we stop as we don’t want to force him. For instance, the other day he was having 5-6oz through the day, but his 4am feed which he woke up naturally for, he only had 3oz x
@Charlotte does he sleep for most of the time in between feeds? That’s where I’m struggling. Mine averages around 1.5-2hr sleeps and wakes up every time like he’s never been fed rooting and crying until we feed him. Its so hard not to over feed as if I give him a smaller ml volume he doesn’t seem full and still roots for more 🤷♀️
@Kati he does, I keep him on 3-4 hour stretches in the day and don’t let him go over 4hrs, and he tends to have two 2 hour naps in the day but I let him nap when he needs it. Then he has his last bottle for the night, which he will normally have the full 6oz and I get longer stretches of sleep. So far the longest he’s gone is 6hrs x
@Charlotte wow, you are living the dream! Well done mama 🥰
@Kati haha thanks! It wasn’t always like this and it doesn’t always go to plan! Last night for example, he went to sleep at 10.30 and woke up at 3am and was ready to be up for the day 😂 x
@Charlotte 😂😂
@Kati sorry I didn’t see your reply! Yeah this is hipp organic formula. She keeps pretty much all of it down, minus a very small amount of spit up (maybe a couple of mls but not every feed). She is consistently finishing the whole bottle though and sometimes rooting for more so I’m now wondering if she’s ready to go up an ounce - but that seems a lot for a 1 month old! It’s all so difficult to know for definite 😅🥲
My little girl is 4 weeks and has 120ml per feed, on demand but roughly every 3 hours
