I don’t serve milk?

Feeling slightly worried as my 15 month old stopped having milk in a bottle around 1 year and does not take more than a sip of milk in a straw or open cup. I do give yogurt and cheese or kefir through out the day. I saw a post about milk and I’m over here thinking he has about 10ml 😂 Does anyone have a clear picture of how much calcium they should have?

There are more other foods to give than milk. Milk is not a good option , however milk products are good. They have more calcium too. For other calcium sources, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds , sunflower seeds can be used. My LO is currently on breast milk and other sources of calcium from food, after I wean off , I am not planning to offer him any other milk. But I would continue giving him milk products. Hope that helps. xx Also may I know what was the post about Milk.?

Absolutely fine :) If he is getting what he needs from cheese and other dairy then don't worry!

NHS says 350ml of milk or equivalent amount of dairy. Make sure they have a whole pot of yoghurt for breakfast? That'll be about a third of daily requirements.

@Shruthi I just saw a few posts about how many oz babies are having before bed. I’m still breastfeeding as well but have now cut it down to morning cuddles and a brief nurse before his nap and bed. He’s a smaller baby been the 25th- 30th centile so I do worry about his nutrition. I use hemp me chai seeds too. Can I ask how you serve pumpkin and sunflower? Are you grinding?

I dry roast them and powder them. Add in his food. :) Sesame seeds can made as tahini or you can buy some pure tahini from stores and incorporate in his food.

Thank you! @Shruthi

@Shruthi confused as to why you’re saying milk is not a good option? Not saying you’re wrong I’ve just not heard this before so can you elaborate please

@Elle : One is because of lactose which is very hard to break in humans especially kids. Second is cos of harmonal inductions which enables cattles to produce the milk throughout that causes hormonal disruptions in us. kids can attain very early puberty/ PCOD/ Thyroid issues are caused and many many more.

@Elle I would take that last comment with a pinch of salt. Milk is perfectly fine for our toddlers providing they don’t have dairy allergies.

We had a dietician for cmpa and small fish where the bones are so tiny you can eat them ie sardines and whitebait have far far more calcium than anything else. Including dairy. You can also use bone broth but I think if you want to avoid salt you would have to get bones from the butcher and make yourself which is not possible with a 1 year old. It is true what Shruthi said about the nature of intensive farming, its not natural and can you imagine some cows are bred to make 50litres a day... I pump 10-13oz when I work. Organic milk should be from cows that weren't fed hormones or antibiotics at least though

My little one is the same stopped breastfeeding on her own at 13 months she just completely refused and refused milk too. I've just been offering high calcium foods. A yoghurt a day etc. She's such a good eater! She also eats green veg at the moment (I say moment because shes a 17 months and chnages her mind everyday 😂) which is high in calcium. She's growing and doing so well I wouldn't be worried too much. I was really worried until I spoke to other mums

@Elle not the one you’re asking but I am also of the opinion that animal milk isn’t good for humans. I wouldn’t want to take away another mum’s breastmilk without their consent and force their baby to separate from them so that I can get their milk. Each species’ milk is for their own offspring. A dog’s milk is for her puppy, a cat’s milk is for her kitten, my milk is for my baby, and a cow’s milk is for her baby calf. Plus I wouldn’t want to give all the antibiotics, pus, blood that is in that milk and the hormones of a lactating mammal of a different species to my little one.

@Ceren Good one ❤️

@Ceren ok so what’s your alternative? I breastfed my son for 14 months before becoming pregnant again but I have many friends who were able to breastfeed at all, it’s a shame for them to think they can’t source alternatives once they are no longer using formula.

There are many alternative plant milks that are also fortified with vitamins if that’s what you want or you can find organic ones that only have 1-2 ingredients so they’re not as processed as others, depends on preference. This is just my opinion, you choose what you choose

@Ceren Do you know the brands in UK with only one or two ingredients? I know only Alpro as of now.
