Solid food

I recently started solids for my 6 month old baby. We did carrot puree (mixed with breast milk), smashed bananas, smashed avacado, smashed sweet potato. My baby can sit upright, has head and neck control, and is interested to take the food to the mouth. However after tasting the food he’s never swallowing it, rather putting the food out. I’m a first time mom and unsure how to navigate this. Should I just give him more time? Anyone had similar experience?

This is totally normal. You just keep at it and he'll get it pretty soon!

@Lianne thank you 🙏🏻 maybe I’m overthinking

It's normal, yes, but it's also a sign he's not ready yet. There's a tongue reflex they're supposed to grow out of before starting food. I'd mention it to your pediatrician if they have a call line and ask for advice. Don't worry though! If you choose to continue trying, the reflex won't hurt him 😊

@Jenna yes, I’ll probably continue offering. Since he seems interested. Thanks for your input

At this point they don’t really ingest much it’s more for exposure. Highly recommend solid starts

Agree with the above! In the beginning it’s definitely more about trying new textures and almost playing with food! Make it fun and embrace the mess! don’t feel too much pressure.

Food before 1 is just for fun. It’s about exploring new tastes and textures not necessarily ingesting it all. Keep offering food and provide milk for primary source of nourishment
