Anxiety tablets

Hi everybody. I have been extremely anxious since having my beautiful baby girl, she is 1 year old. The midwife that has been coming out to me was always lovely and so good to us however she recommended when my baby was around 3 months to go on anxiety medication. I never wanted to do this and didn’t but I seem to be getting worse and honestly just don’t want to feel this way anymore. I rang my GP to voice my concerns and my symptoms - Overthinking about her safety Constantly afraid of cot death Having no energy to leave the house Constantly checking my baby at night to make sure she is breathing I honestly believed this was just a new mum thing but she has told me this is not normal and she would like to refer me to the mental health team? This has honestly just worried me more, does she think I’m not able to care for my child or is this just the over thinking happening again? Is ANYBODY on the same boat as me?

No, she doesn’t think you can’t take care of your child, but she is just worried about your mental health. It is normal for women to feel worried and anxious after having a baby especially your first. I do think therapy will help you over tablets as they just cover up the anxiety instead of helping to fix it. If the doctor was worried about your baby she would intervene more. Mind yourself ❤️

@Orla aww thank you Orla you really have eased my worrying, she just kept stating that this was not normal and I could feel myself break out in a sweat like complete regret for even ringing!

It takes two years for your hormones to get back to pre pregnancy. A GP can only do so much, but they shouldn’t worsen your anxiety. Normally you referred pretty quickly for postpartum anxiety, so hopefully you’ll not be wasting too long. I am sure you are doing your best for your daughter ❤️
