@Sarah thanks Sarah, will I need to see the doctor within the 7 days prior to the flight?
I didn’t need to see anyone. Just rang up for the fit to fly note and they did it without seeing me 😊 How far along will you be?
@Rebekah mine didn’t seem to offer me that on the phone 😢 I’ll be 30 weeks next Monday and fly on the 27th
It’s not part of NHS service to provide these so if the GP wishes to do so, it’s a private service which you usually have to pay for. Midwives are not allowed to issue these. The reason being that if you become unwell or go into labour causing the flight to be diverted, the person who signed the note could be held liable should the airline wish to sue.
Also I wouldn’t sign a certificate unless it was for someone to go to a funeral or see a dying relative when they are 30 weeks pregnant. It’s too close to the due date.
I had a very stressful trip because of this and ended up just wearing a big coat and hoping no one asked. My GP wouldn't do it even if we paid them as they said pregnancy is none of their business, The midwife said it's not her responsibility and we couldn't get an appointment with a private GP in time. Very annoying! As I say, I just kind of wore baggy clothes and hoped no one would mention it and they didn't. It was my second pregnancy as well so I was huge 😂 I wouldn't have done it for a big trip or a holiday but we were just visiting my in laws for the weekend and all was well so no reason to expect any issues. We knew the risk and were prepared to pay for any care needed while I was abroad if needed.
My midwife did mine for me and there was no charge!!
@Rueben airline can’t sue for going into spontaneous labour. That would be like them trying to sue for someone having a heart attack mid flight
@Sarah yes they can, as technically it is a foreseeable possibility. They rarely ever do, but it is possible. If someone who had been having frequent angina episodes was signed off as being fit to fly and had a heart attack mid flight, the doctor would be 100% liable. If someone with no history of heart disease had a heart attack mid flight, of course there is no liability.
@Amy I had to pay £60 for it but doctor was happy to just do it without seeing me 😊
@Rebekah how many weeks pregnant was you? X
@Amy I think 27, flew for a 2 week holiday 😊 (was back in June and baby brain is real 😂)
You download the certificate from jet2 website and get an appointment with the doctor to fill it out and sign it. Only 1 form needed, it asks for both inbound and outbound flight information I did it last year at 30 weeks pregnant
I went away at 31 weeks pregnant back in June, also with Jet2. I was informed by my midwife the whole time that they would be able to issue me a fit to fly, all good. The day before we flew I had a midwife appointment & had arranged for them to issue me a fit to fly. Turned up to my appointment & they’d just changed their policy & could no longer issue one..I’d have to get my GP to issue a medical history certificate. The midwife wrote a letter which stated facts about my pregnancy. My husband also spent the day going back & forth from the GP (I was at work) - they couldn’t issue what I needed in such a short space of time. I did however manage to get them to complete & sign the Jet2 fit to fly form which is online. I had a conversation with them on the phone as I was at work. It basically just stated the same as what the midwife’s letter did. Paid £12 for the GP to complete it. Glad I had it, was asked to show it on the way home (from Majorca)

I’ve got a fit to fly certificate from my midwife for christmas. Although I was just talking to a friend who is 8 months pregnant and has been travelling often throughout her pregnancy and has never been asked for a certificate… obviously better to have one than not but you might not even be asked to show it
Hey hun I flew with jet2 back in may when I was pregnant. Wasn’t due till sept going out was fine, but on the way back I got pulled and asked if I had a fit to fly even though I was able to on their website and according to their website I didn’t need a fit to fly, luckily I panicked before we went on holiday and I got my midwife to do me a fit to fly. ( jet2 do have a form online) I took it to my midwife and she signed it all off for me cos I was scared of been declined xx
BA have their own form you need to get your midwife to fill in
You have to get it from a GP, midwife won’t even issue one and it’s about £50-£60 depending on the GP
