I had an elective two weeks ago through choice no medical reason and it was amazing. I did make it clear at about 25 weeks I wanted one and was sent to meet a consultant midwife before being booked it. If it’s something you want tell them ASAP as they need to book you in to have a pre op etc. They cannot refuse due to lack of medical reasons.
I thought QE was midwife led and therefore a birth centre rather than a labour and delivery ward. Doesn’t c section go under consultant led units only?
@Lauren oh I don’t know actually, I will have to look into that!
@Lauren I can’t find anything about QE not having C sections. They got a new maternity theatre a couple of years ago by the looks of it and it appears to be where C sections are carried out at QE :)
Well that’s interesting to know! I’m surprised they haven’t done any birth planning with you yet. You can contact the maternity unit and ask if they can do a unit specific birth plan with you to discuss options
Unsure about elective c-sections but QE definitely has labour and delivery wards and is consultant led. Had my unplanned c-section in the maternity theatre you mention above last year 😊
@Nicole that’s so interesting it was one of my choices for delivering my baby and my midwife said it’s midwife led so if your needs become complex you can’t go there!
Hey, so I’m 33 weeks and had a consultant appointment last week to discuss birth. Although I’m high risk pregnancy due to previous C-section they won’t give me a date until week 38 so there is still time. I can’t help with the non medical reasons but they will tell you the pros and cons of both to make you aware of all possibilities x
