You can start whenever you feel ready. They are your baby at the end of the day. The latest research around this shows that babies who were weaned before 6 months have a higher rate of allergies and intolerances later in life. I personally won’t be weaning prior to this for that reason. Your LO should also be able to reach out, grab and bring to their mouth before you should wean x
You can start at 4 months if baby is ready. You said baby spits up a lot, could it be reflux? Reflux is another reason why they could advise you to start solids x
As long as hes atleast 17 weeks, can sit level (can be supported), grab the food and bring it to their mouths its upto u when u decide to wean from there. My girl was born 1st August and I said the day she was born shell get christmas dinner 🤣 shes tiny between 1st & 2nd centile but shes showing all the signs already Also to add my GP advised I wean at 4 months as shes very poor weight gain and it was the only thing than got my 2nd baby to gain weight he had the same issue xx
I was advised to start feeding my son at 4months as he wasn’t content he eats baby porridge and will eat every last bit he was in purées but was having the same issue and was spitting them up maybe try the baby porridge x
They sometimes recommend to start at 4 months with refluxy babies as the thicker foods can help with the spit up. But it's only advice and as baby has good weight gain I would go with what you feel comfortable with. My first was a big baby and we started at just over 5 months but she was able to sit properly and already attempting to steal food and eat it . My youngest is 17 weeks and no where near showing signs of readiness yet so I'm going to wait until she's ready hopefully as close to 6 months as possible x
Do what you and your baby are ready for and want! They are all different and slow down/have growth spurts and to still be just breast feeding is a huge accomplishment so give yourself credit for that X
My son sees a dietician and she said they can start anywhere from 4 to 6 months if they are showing the signs of being ready e.g. good head control, able to sit with minimal assistance and watching others eat. His weight gain isn't great so I plan to start when he's showing signs of being ready. He's almost 4 months, does watch us eat but his head control isn't great yet and he's nowhere near sitting up
