Add an extra oz of milk to porridge or weetabix to make it less dry, blend them up further if you need to, I used aldi pouches to begin with, the blueberry and banana porridge was a good one, it's slightly thicker but still smooth & she inhaled it! Then I would make it myself and slightly thicker each time. If you make it too thick, chuck in some fruit puree, helps them eat new things that taste like what theyre used to. They do go off their food during teething too. I batch make little veggie patties/nuggets which she only played with at the beginning, now she eats properly with hands. You know they can't choke on them cos they're made of boiled & mashed veg, form them into little nuggets, then cook again. Just helps with textures. Again these can be made smooth to begin with and just increase the textures as you go by mashing less! X
Also gagging & sick are both normal, they have to train their gag reflex to be further back in their throat, only way they can do that is by gagging! X
Thank you for the advice appreciate it :) he had some reflux issues and vomiting that I was in hospital with him about before due to not gaining weight so infatrini was used then and it helped but the sma I put him on now for 6 months + doesn't seem to be helping him much his gain is slowing down he's only put on 1lb 1oz in 2 months? I feel he should of put on more than that :(
No, not tounge tie as far as I'm aware never had that just had reflux issues before
Weight gain definitely slows down now, but if you're worried, always speak to the health visitor! We've got our '9 month' HV visit today so yours can't be far off! Is he following his curve?
Gagging is normal! Babies gag reflex is further forward and gradually moves back. They have to learn how to handle solid foods and how to swallow. Only way they do that is by practice and experiencing solid foods. My girl turns 8months next week and now rarely gags, she picks up and eats chicken breast, meatballs, toast all sorts. She started off gagging lots but learnt how to handle it, take bites and swallow. Learn the difference between gagging and choking and that will help your nerves. But really they need that gag to prevent choking. I know it can be scary. Her first food she loved was roasted sweet potato in strips as she could hold it but it was also soft inside to mush in her mouth
Does he have a tongue tie at all? My eldest struggled to wean due to a tongue tie xxx
