Bruised after scan

Had my 12 week scan yesterday and got to see our little one. The man doing the scan has a few issues with baby being very wiggly and in the wrong position and at the time I felt very uncomfortable and a bit painful. I saw from my scan notes it’s was a ‘technically difficult’ scan although our pictures are brilliantly clear and wonderful. Today my tummy is in so much pain- feels really deep bruised when I move and so sore to touch- just hoping bubs ok?

Was it a transvag or top scan? Was he using a lot of pressure? I would contact the office and let them know about your concern. Does sound a bit alarming. Hope you’re okay!

It was a top scan. He was putting a lot of pressure on and trying to get bub to move with the scanning ‘wand’ thing. I just wasn’t thinking I should need paracetamol and be in so much pain today. I’ll maybe drop them an email- I just don’t want to be a pain if it’s normal! X

I had this when I was 12 weeks! The sonographer pressed really hard at my 12 week scan and next day I was experiencing really bad tummy pain and a bit of bleeding. Other professionals told me it had nothing to do with the amount of pressure at the scan, but I really do think it was because of how much pressure they put on my stomach. It took a whole week for anyone to help me and I was so worried, but finally I managed to get an emergency scan a week later and baby was all okay and no obvious cause for the bleeding and they said it was most likely a burst blood vessel that caused the bleeding. My advice would be to keep an eye out for any bleeding (hopefully you have none🤞🏼) and if the pain is unbearable then I would advise you to contact/go to triage to be checked over. hope everything is okay for you and that its nothing to worry about! ☺️x

Thank you @chantelle and @LaLa - I’ve been a bit tearful as it’s left me worried than reassured (probably also hormones too though) x

I also had this with my 12 weeks scan was sooo tender and sore😩

@Charlie Yeaa I was the same when it happened to me, I was really disheartened and upset the whole time I was waiting for another scan. I didn’t realise it was quite common until I saw your post though, honestly I’m sure you are okay, I had slight bleeding with mine and was also okay so it’s probably just the sonographer being too rough, if you can’t stop worrying though, that’s totally understandable and contacting triage could ease your worries a bit, honestly try not to even think you are being annoying or dramatic if there turns out to be nothing wrong, it’s better to check and have nothing wrong than to not check and there be a problem. Also don’t let any professionals make you feel like you are wasting their time for wanting to make sure your baby is okay. Hope you manage to feel a bit better soon🤍

Please everyone if something feels uncomfortable ask them to stop. It is your body and you are within your rights to say no. Ask for a different sonographer or for them to book you in a week later. You don't have to be scanned at all it's all your choice x
