I found it less painful than a blood test xx
I am also afraid of needles! I had to have one too when I asked for an epidural in case they needed to move quickly in case of emergency. It wasn’t bad, it feels worse to get blood drawn for tests. It became annoying after I gave birth, I had to stay on the ward and they kept it in in case I needed a blood transfusion (I lost a lot of blood), I kept snagging it on my clothes. But it wasn’t painful just annoying.
@Ellie Your so right to be honest haha I’ve just got to think about the end results like you said… honestly my midwife was giggling when I said i’m more scared for the cannula than actual labour 🤣
@Danni Oh phew, that makes me feel so much better! I think I was just getting in my head about having a needle in my hand because I’ve never experienced it before haha but It’s nice to know from someone else who’s scared of needles that it wasn’t bad
@Rhya I’m so glad to hear this hahah makes my worries a lot less because of how many blood tests I’ve had while pregnant 🤣xx
@Eden it was my first as well so I understand your worry. And as it’s related to needles if you want an epidural I can assure you that doesn’t hurt either. I ended up asking for one after 24 hours of labour and I honestly felt the local anaesthetic they administered to numb the area more than the epidural, it feels like pressure and I didn’t even see the needle. So if you want one of those don’t worry about it either, just tell them you don’t want to see anything. 😁
@Danni thank you so much for your advice honestly couldn’t thank you enough! x
I had one and I absolutely hate needles too! I can’t watch them when they put them in me! It was fine. They got it wrong first so had to do it again but it was just annoying rather than painful because I couldn’t move my hand much so picking baby up out of her crib or trying to bend my hand was tricky but wasn’t painful. A little sore when they took it out. Try not to worry you will be fine ☺️
@Eden haha that’s funny! Obviously I don’t think anyone LIKES them but it is just one of those things. I had quite a bad birth for my first baby.. ended up with 2 blood transfusions and multiple attempts to fit more cannulas but you sorta just get use to it/get over it. You’ll be fine 🥰
Honestly if you’re already in Labour you won’t even notice
I'm in the US but I was able to decline mine as it's not medically necessary unless for an emergency (which is why they usually place it beforehand)
Personally… I don’t think they’re that bad. You’ve obviously had blood tests through your pregnancy. Don’t overthink it. And without sounding harsh… labour is probably going to be worse than your cannula. Just remember, everything is worth it when you have your baby in your arms!
