How do you get your toddler to listen to you ?

My toddler completely ignores me when I tell her to stop doing something or just give her an instruction, she will look at me and smile or just say no and continue. It’s becoming super frustrating and I need some advice please.

Accept that it's normal toddler behaviour Go and remove her from the situation rather than relying on her to have the self-control to stop Then distract her 😊

How old are they?

@L 💜 she is 27 months

@Sophie yeah , it’s just stuff like climbing on the sofa and going to the window, she constantly goes to the window and tries to break the blinds. I will get her down and she will just go back up again and again. I’m pregnant which makes it even more difficult for me 😭

Agree with Sophie, it's completely normal toddler behaviour. Remove and distract.

Can you leave the blinds up so that she can't reach them? Usually it's easier to remove the temptation than it is to get a toddler to resist it!

@Sophie my blinds don’t go up but to the side, I’ve tried to keep them open but she’ll just still try to reach them.

Oh, how annoying!

I saw something the other day that said that toddlers can only focus on one thing at once so if they're doing something else and you need them to listen you need stop them doing whatever it is and then speak to them. Like if the TV is on and they're watching it you have to turn it off and make eye contact with them. Most of the time they'll still say no 🤣

@Emily I don’t think she’s said yes to me many times tbh 😂😂😂
