Portion size confusion
I’ve started weaning. We had a blip with sickness and then force syringe medication. Since then my baby is opting more for the whole foods than puree. So I’m now forced to BLW.
On TikTok mums are making whole meals for 6 month year olds and the plates are finished. But my little one is eating a teaspoon. Is this normal? Are my expectations too low?

my girl is 7 mo and won't eat a single thing lol. she will suck on a pickle spear, and i can get a finger tip of mashed potatoes in her mouth which she spits out most of the time. your babe is doing perfectly wonderfully fine 🩷
Yes, that's perfectly normal
All babies learn different things at different rates. Just like older kids and adults etc. Keep it fun. Don't stress. Purees are better than nothing. My 11.5 month averages about 1/2 cup to 1 cup food an hour after his 7 oz bottles for 3 meals a day. He has a solo bottle between them either 2 or 3 hours between.

At some point it will be important to introduce whole foods and different textures so baby can learn how to navigate those (chew, gag, swallow, spit, etc.) so it's good in my opinion that they're showing interest. You can still do purés as it doesn't have to be strictly one or the other. As they say: food before one is just for fun. Meaning don't stress too much about how much baby eats as long as they're content and gaining weight steadily. Some days my little girl almost clears her oatmeal, other days she will eat a little bit. Just like adults, kids appetites changes day to day. Oh also please don't believe everything on social media, bet they don't show half the food thrown on the floor 😅
