@Pam can you tell what therapies? My child is not diagnosed yet. Still waiting.
@Pam would love to know more about your son’s experience and what helped him.
Good morning friends! My son sees an occupational therapist for his autism services. He also has an IEP for school. Mercy Hospital system has an Autism Clinic for kids and that is a good place to start for an evaluation and diagnosis for autism. Google autism services and see what comes up. Sensory Solutions is an excellent place to receive services for autism. I think Parents as Teachers can do evaluations as well. There are many options for autism services for which I am grateful.
Syeda my son only spoke in 1 and 2 word phrases when he started school when he was 3. He would say things like ba-ba (bottle), cook cook (cookie), and ma ma. By the time he was 4 he could count to 100 and backwards from 100 and he could say his ABCs forward and backwards but speech was still a struggle. Occupational therapy has helped his so much. Now at 8 he talks all the time lol. His speech is not quite on the same level as other 8 year old but it is leaps and bounds better than what it was. He also has a fairly restricted diet. He used to eat everything but stopped eating at about 3. He would only eat oatmeal - 3 times a day. I would mix baby food into it so he would get other vitamins. We started food therapy which is occupational therapy and now he eats many more foods. We still struggle to get him to eat new foods but it's much better than it was. Let me know if that answers your question. Have a great day!
The autism diagnosis is a shock. There are many wonderful therapies available for our autism babies that work wonders. Start early like you are doing and watch her progress. Remember to count the things she can do instead of looking at what she can't do. That is one of the things that helped me with my son. It gets better. Sending hugs and prayers. My son was diagnosed level 3 twice but to meet him you would never think that. Our autism babies are amazing
