My baby is 5 months on Christmas. She hates tummy time so I didn’t and don’t force it. She can do it, just doesn’t want to. She has amazing head neck and core control for 5 months. Her ped said the same and also told me if she doesn’t want to do it that is fine. Tummy time is intended to strengthen head neck and core muscles. I did start assisting with sitting up very early though, instead of the tummy time. She can now sit unassisted and move her upper body around without flopping over. Every baby is different. Don’t worry or get discouraged, just keep practicing, your baby will do it when he’s ready.
@Stacy yea he has great head control as well even when I let him grab my finger he will pull his self up so not to to worried
@Taylor thank up 🩷
Each baby is different and takes things at their own pace. If you have concerns, bring it up to the pediatrician for reassurance, but it'll happen! My baby still hasn't rolled over yet and she'll be 5 months on Xmas eve
My understanding is it's not a "dealt" until 8 months not being able to sit on their own. But like Moira said every baby develops at their own pace. Those markers are really just so the pediatrician has a timeline to assess for progress. As long as your baby isn't stagnating and not doing any motor skill work they're fine.
You can do tummy time with your LO laying on you. Mine loves that and also tummy time on his water mat with the fishes. But he isn’t sitting up on his own yet either and he’ll be 5 months next week. He does have great head and neck control though. I was worried too bc my nephew was sitting up at 3 months. Everyone is different!
my baby will be 6 months on the 7th as well and is not sitting up, sitting up is not a milestone that is supposed to be met by 6 months it’s something they should start working on around 6 months
