@Emma didn’t think about that lol! Thanks definitely will
Also I would recommend upping foods with high water content… I know it’s not water exactly but you get it where you can… and if it is a uti cranberry juice would help too…
Cranberry juice is supposed to help with UTIs. Try diluting the juice with water. Don't let him see you while you prepare the bottles. What is important now is to get liquids in.
Right now what’s important is the liquids so I would just give in till the UTI is dealt with and then tackle the juice issue x
You could start mixing juice half water half juice till you slowly wean the juice. Or there’s only enough juice that it slightly changes the color. That’s what we do for our son. He will drink water plain but if we give him juice it’s a lot of water and some juice. 3/4 water to 1/4 juice.
Half water half juice and let him see you pour juice in his sippy. I do this with my kids all the time cuz they throw giant tantrums for it. Slowly make it less juice and more water where he won’t notice. You can also try Pedialyte.
That was my issue but I let her scream for juice and I only offered water. She eventually started drinking the water as she was thirsty
I only give my little dude half water and half juice. I also make pineapple green tea that I let him have. It’s fruit flavored but has no sugar and green tea is low caffeine. He loves green tea and it’s a nice sugar free option if he’s drank a bunch of water.
Also drink water and share. Kids will naturally mimic parents so if you have water your drinking give him some as well, my son loves to drink what mommy is drinking.
No more juice and no one drinks juice around him. He won’t like it but he will readjust
Diluted juice is okay for now. Also needs antibiotics. After he’s better, set firm limits on the juice - only once small cup per day, after that no more. He will have many tantrums initially, but as long as you are firm on the rule he will adjust.
What about water with some fresh orange squeezed in? So it’s a juice like flavour without all the extra sugar?
Propel!!! It's full of electrolytes but no sugars.
Took my kiddo to the store and let her pick out a special cup for her water, one of the cups we didn't usually splurge on. Then we did a star chart where I let her put up stickers for accomplishing her water drinking. The cup and the tactile activity seemed to distract from being so stubborn about water. Hope you find some good ideas to try and that he gets well soon!
Why don't you try flavoured water?
