I've been taking omeprazole daily for 5 years due to severe acid reflux and esophagitis, and I never had this problem. However, it can be a side effect of omeprazole.
@Frankie yeah taking it for too long isn't great for your gut either it can cause stomach ulcers etc
@Abi It can. It's not common, but it can. However, like any medication taken long term. Some pros outweigh the cons. I have regular blood tests and doctors checkups. So far, everything is fine🤞 I was in constant pain before, couldn't eat or drink anything without a problem, even water. I couldn't even sleep, so in my case, the pros definitely outweigh the cons
@Frankie both my father in law and my dad got stomach ulcers from taking omeprazole long term. I suffer with bad reflux always have from birth and won't be on anything longer than 6 months I changed my diet instead
Changing diet can work for some but not others. As I said, without omeprazole, I can't even drink water without having pain. My sister has been on omeprazole for years kore than me, I have family and friends that also take it without problems. Unfortunately, some people get side effects, some more severe than others. I'm glad changing your diet helped you. However, it doesn't work for everyone. Just like omeprazole doesn't
I had these same symptoms when I was taking them, I decided the reflux was easier to manage than feeling so ill!
when i was on them they didn’t make me feel this way. i guess everyone’s different but if it continues contact your gp on monday x
