We do milk, teeth, book then bed. I’m no dentist but I was told by mine never to let them go to sleep with milk on their teeth even from the first little teeth at 6 months. Our little one used to drop off a lot easier after his milk which was a pain to stop initially, but reading a book then having a cuddle in the dark until he gets sleepy seems to work just as well now. Hope that helps 😊
Yeah milk sitting on their teeth during the night isn’t great. After we brush teeth, no more eating or drinking unless it’s plain water.
Yeah the sugar from the milk being left on the teeth is not good, always brush last thing x
My sons dentist just suggested I use a wet wash cloth or paper towel to wipe down my sons teeth after any night feeds (:
We switched our son over to water at bedtime because he still uses the bottle for comfort because milk can cause cavities and dental trauma if they need work early on. We give him milk after he finishes dinner in case he needs a little extra substance for his belly but really they shouldn’t need more than 8-10oz of milk in the day nutrition wise (at least what our pediatrician said).
Supposed to brush last so I started doing milk then teeth but my twins are used to the routine of milk before sleep so that didn't work. They are almost without milk before bed now but still occasionally ask for it so I'm thinking to do milk and story time then teeth and bed
Milk then teeth. I know some babies struggle with that routine, though. For us it was no trouble to separate feeding from sleep, and I know it's not good for their teeth, so we just made the switch. I'm not sure how much good brushing actually does before a year old though, it's more about just forming the habit. Mine insists on doing it herself, so we brush together, I show her what to do and she watches.
My daughter would fall asleep breastfeeding so was always the same routine as you.
Breastfeeding has no links to tooth decay so if you’re breastfeeding I wouldn’t worry too much. Bottles can man milk pool behind the teeth.
Teeth after milk 100%.
Those that do milk then teeth how do you get the baby to sleep?! Mine all feed to sleep and feed to sleep through the night too. They’re 14mths but 1yr corrected so still have a good while of feeding to sleep yet
@Laura Byrne my twins were the same as your littles when I attempted to do the switch I'd have them sit on the sofa with a bottle of milk and either watching telly, if I was busy, or read them a book then we would go upstairs and brush teeth then get into bed for a cuddle. This worked for me for maybe 2 weeks🤣 and then they didn't want to do it anymore and I'm ngl laziness on my part because I was also heavily pregnant at the time so I just went back to them having teeth first then milk in bed
I didn't know this was an actual thing !! I started brushing the teeth exactly the 1st time I realised teeth were out. And I just naturally did milk then teeth and till now no issues. I guess once you start whatever sequence changing isn't easy.
Thanks lady’s.. will try to change the routine tonight… wish me luck… 🥴🫣
We used to do teeth then milk but swapped it around when she was about 18-20months
