Wants to sleep independently

5 month old and has always been rocked / held to sleep (reflux when younger and has now become habit). During the regression she's learnt to put herself back to sleep when stirring but can't from full awake. At bedtime or after night feed she fights the rocking pulling her head back and whining. I'll put her in the basket and sometimes I can just hold her hand to sleep but other I'll have to pick her up and start again as she cries. Anyone else having anything similar??

Sounds exactly like my little guy! He is a wild sleeper. I feel like there’s no rhyme or reason… like one day what works isn’t what works the next…. And then maybe something that worked a month ago will all the sudden work. I just try to take it one day at a time

My little boy is exactly the same, will not go to sleep unless he’s being held or out in the pram being rocked. He has started falling asleep on his play mat when he is knackered but will not do it on his cot 🫣

My LG has reflux too. We had to keep her upright after feeds for 20-30 mins so she’d always naturally fall asleep in our arms. Now it’s basically the only way she’ll go to sleep (if she isn’t in the car or pushchair). Once she has been rocked then after 5 mins I’ll lay her down in her cot and she is usually fine. In regards to the pulling head back and whining, I think it’s completely normal. They almost fight the sleep even though they’re tired. I think they often say it’s a sign of over tiredness. I’m no expert though and completely new to it all. I downloaded huckleberry and paid for the subscription and no joke, my LG sleeps bang on when they predict. I’m not saying this to suggest you download & pay for the subscription, but for me it has helped a lot. But basically just make sure your little one has the recommended amount of sleep in the day and it’ll help a lot with the night time sleep. It might be slightly different for you though as I’ve just seen your little one has a

Feed overnight whereas my LG hasn’t for quite some time. Every baby is completely different. You’re doing amazing and I know it’s tough. Eventually your little one will get the hang of it but they’re too little to self soothe yet so just do whatever works for you xx
