Thank you! So would you recommend me getting a frozen stash built up rather than relying on pumping fresh each week once I go back? Because I’ve never used bottles I’ve no idea how much he might realistically drink each day, I’m clueless 😫 x
@Becky so I would definitely recommend having frozen stash just in case and then when you get closer to working instead of freezing I would be sending that fresh milk. So in that case if you haven’t made enough the day before, you just add from the freezer and that way you know he’ll have enough and you don’t have to stress!! Of course you’ll still have to keep pumping when you go back to work if you want to keep up with your supply! Also I would try adding the bottle before you go to work, just to make sure he’ll take it and so he can get used to it! xx
From what I understand, babies don’t normally need more than about 4oz of breastmilk per feed, because as your milk matures it increases in calories and nutrients. Your baby might want more, but probably not more than 5oz! I would suggest having a frozen stash because if you’re already thinking you won’t make enough for the bottle then you should definitely start storing now. When I first started pumping I would pump after every feed, wouldn’t get more than like an extra ounce but after a day or 2 I would have a couple extra bottles that I would use to replace entire feeds and make sure to pump while/after baby ate the bottle. I highly suggest pumping during the first feed of the day because you will most likely get the most milk from that pumping session
Thank you so much both of you, that’s really helpful ♥️
Yes you can store it in the fridge for up to 4 days after that you have to freeze it. What I would recommend is pumping right after feeding, you might not get much in the beginning but that way you’ll send your body a message to produce more milk and start slowly having stash by the time you go back to work
