Completely up to you, but their estimate of baby’s size in utero can be drastically off, and if they’re encouraging you to induce bc they think it’s a “big baby” that’s just not up to date info from what I’ve heard from drs and read. If baby and you are both completely healthy and there’s no other reason to induce, your body will do what it’s meant to do when it’s ready
Wait 100%. Induction often leads to cascade of interventions . Always better to just let your body do it’s thing if everything with you and the pregnancy is normal and healthy
Also, with my first, I was 5 days past due and went in having contractions but not super painful. They told me nothing was really happening, I was 1 cm and they expected I’d be back in 2 days for my induction. Went into spontaneous labor maybe 10 hours later and had her that night. Everything can change quickly!
I would wait! I’m 5 days past my due date, it’s so hard to be patient but it’s so normal to go past the due date as it’s just a complete estimated guess. Let you body & your body decide naturally when it’s ready & you will have such a better experience in birth!
@Krissie I hope this for me! I’m 5 days past due right now and not feeling much haha
Thank you all so much! ❤️❤️❤️
I was induced almost 2 weeks ago. I had originally hoped for an unmedicated and natural delivery. I also have a very high pain tolerance, but the pitocin contractions were insanely brutal. Ended up having a c-section cause baby’s head was too large for my pelvis.. but all that to say, I’d avoid an induction if there’s no medical reason to have it. I’ve seen people have positive experiences with them, but that was not the case for me, unfortunately :/
Other end of the spectrum, I was induced this morning due to large baby (and she was, came out 8lb 10oz at 39+1). And I had an amazing birth unmedicated even with the pitocin. I could even walk through the contractions still at 7-8cm dilated and was only in labor 8 hours start of pitocin to baby with only 22 min pushing. My nurse was amazing and kept a close watch on my contractions, how I felt (like if they were tolerable or not and if I felt like I was getting a break in between) and gave me lots of tips to support going unmedicated. So an indication can definitely be positive too!
I was induced with the balloon at 36 weeks due to preeclampsia. My BP was normal throughout the entire pregnancy until my 36 week checkup, so it was all a surprise, and I was not expecting to be induced at all. I asked for morphine before the balloon insertion and it was still painful. It ended up working after 12 hours and they gave me a pill to thin out my cervix as well but my water didn’t break so they ended up having to do that too, which was also so painful. Then they started me on pitocin which was awful. I think I was in active labor for almost 28 hours before I got to 10cm. I’d recommend waiting as long as it’s still safe for you and baby!
@Krissie they said my baby would only be 5 lbs 1 oz he ended up being 6 lbs 1 oz
I waited till 41w exactly to be induced. I really wanted to go into labor spontaneously bc I feel like it’s better to let your body do it on its own, and also less painful, but the risks after 41w were too great IMO
I was scared to do induction but I'm glad I did. Baby was 8 pounds 10 ounces. We had to use forceps and episiotomy as all which is cutting me down there... Baby came out healthy and thriving. Just do it, but make sure to get the epidural soon after your water breaks on pitocin or after they break the water manually which wasn't bad at all... When you get epidural please try to hold still. That's why I say get it kind of early like an hour after your water breaks so that the anesthesiologist can place the needle in your back without you writhing in pain and shaking your back. Then you could get a spinal head ache like I did. Please try to sit still and then it will go very smoothly. You will be able to sleep during contractions and get rest while your cervix dilates.
I was induced at 41w1d with my first and chose a 39w1d induction with my second. With my first I tried everything but he wouldn’t come and I didn’t want to risk him staying longer. With my second I was over it and my husband had a work project in a few weeks so he would have more time home if I got induced early. Both inductions were incredible, I had awesome births both times. Not all inductions lead to complications, but it’s nice knowing all the risks before you make a decision.
I had my baby on the 11th and was due the 15th! I went in for an induction on the 8th because I had symphysis pubis dysfunction and was in a lot of pain. I'm glad I induced. I was mainly glad I did in the end because my baby was 8 lbs 14.5oz and they told me he was around 7 earlier that week. I ended up with a c-section and after he came out my doctor told me that there was no way I would have delivered him naturally because his head wouldn't have fit through my pelvis. I chose to do the c-section and wasn't pressured or anything. They gave me every chance they could to let me have him as nature intended but I was so tired. He also flipped sunny side up during labor so that would have made things more complicated 🙃 I labored for 60 hours and didn't progress past 4.5cm. I topped out on pitocin and my epidural wasn't working as well anymore but I had an amazing team to make sure I was well taken care of and didn't feel any pain or discomfort. we are both healthy and happy! Do what feels right for you 🫶🏼

Update: currently in the hospital being induced 🙄 I tried postponing till Friday to buy the little guy some time but OBGYN sent me to ER after an irregular NST on the due date and hospital advised to stay because my BP is high 🥴 this is torture but I'm ready for his little face to make all this pain worth it!
@Monica I’m sure it’s going to go great! Good luck and you got this!
A membrane sweep is a less dramatic way to encourage labor. I was due 12/1, had an appt with my doc the 3rd at 3:30, she did a sweep and by 6:30 I was finally having regular contractions. Had my daughter at 4:40am on the 4th.
Plateaued at 6 cm and didn't dilate or efface any further for 15 hours... Ended up needing C-section! So disappointed in that but so happy to be with my baby boy. Adam is beautiful and weighs 8lbs 1oz
All I can say if the pitocin contractions are noooo joke they are so much worse than regular contractions my water broke and I wasn’t contracting or dilating so they had to start an induction I wish my body had done what it was suppose to do I have a high pain tolerance but I could not do the pitocin contraction without pain management I’ve also herd that it was so painful because my water broke 💕
