Potty training

So we’ve decided to potty train our 2.5 year old. The whole day there is no nappy. He doesn’t tell us when he needs to go, we see him touching himself as a cue that he needs to go or we take him every 20 mins anyway. We are on day 3 today, he’s only done a poo once on the toilet he is too scared. Any tips please and does it get easier will he tell us he needs to go!!

Take him after every meal. Tell him stories in the tolilet or take toys, make it very enjoyable, just like bathrooms 🥰 It takes a long time so be patient with him. We started at 6 months and was out of nappies by 20 months so give him time 😘

It sounds like he might not be ready. I’ve heard the best advice is to follow their queue as if they aren’t feeling the urge/linking it to going, you may end up getting no where. There’s no rush- he’ll get there in his own time, everyone does, thankfully 😅 . Also, if they’re ready, they say it doesn’t take long as they’ve more awareness and can learn the skill. 😊

Apparently 20 minutes after food is optimal poo time. Our son very rearly asks for the potty, we just put him on ever hour or so and he pees then. We also notice more accidents when he's tired, evenings etc.

He does sound ready. He will learn to be ready :) stick with it and don’t confuse - literally only nappies for day time nap and bedtime. We started just before 2nd bday. He was brilliant, we made it fun and stuck him on the potty every 20 mins. Re. The poos we bought him a mini toilet we put next to the toilet and we “go” together. He soon got it. It’s been 6 weeks and he now asks to go to the wee wee and poo poo. Most kids are ready….its more are the parents ready as you really have to be dedicated to the cause!!!! After Xmas we will get him some steps up to the big toilet and an insert so he can try the big boy toilet 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Sounds like he’s not ready yet
