Multiple foods on plate

Should I be offering my baby more than 1 food with every meal? I only give her like one thing per meal. So only French toast for breakfast. But I see loads of people offering French toast yoghurt and fruit all on the one meal. Is there a reason for this? Should I be doing that too? I've been making loads such as fritters, veggie fingers, toast with topping, omelette, French toast etc. And I offer yoghurt but I tend to do foods on their own if that makes sense? Any assistance appreciated đź‘Ź

How old? I only started with two or three things around 9 months or so. When we first started weaning I tried offering full meals, and I think it just distressed and confused her. She did much better with one item at a time. Then, once she was comfortable with that, we started offering more. Try not to compare yourself against what everyone else is doing. You know your baby best. Do what's working for you.

We started with one thing if she was unfamiliar and then introduced more. So just oatmeal. Then oatmeal and half an apple (softened) and then we’d smash apple, add it to the oatmeal and add cinnamon. I do think they can be overwhelmed until they’re familiar with something.

I offer my 7 month old two to three things, for example: scrambled eggs, cucumber sticks, and tomato wedges or big strawberries. She eats from all three and she kinda goes back and forth between different things. They may eat from all things or choose one item to focus on, but giving them this variety and options is good, so long as you don't overdo it, variety and portion wise as it can get overwhelming and they may end up purely throwing the food around rather than explore and eat.

We offer a few things and have done since 6 months if they weren’t major allergens. Mainly for variety and to explore different textures. We just offer what we have for meals 🍽️

I try to offer two to three things at every meal. But sometimes it’s just oatmeal for breakfast or he’ll only eat the chicken and not the veggies at dinner, of course other times all he wants to eat are sweet potatoes and zucchini. Like @Emma we give him what we eat- so there’s always a few things to offer, but he doesn’t always eat everything and I think that’s ok.
