Salt/Sugar in babies diet?

My lg is 16 mo and I refuse to give her any sugar or salt (except that from fruits or sodium naturally present in foods - eggs etc). She is refusing the foods she ate before and those that she liked but I also attribute that to her growth spurt. I did try adding some pink salt to her mashed potatoes and I think I might have ruined my plan of keeping her salt free till 24 months. What do y'all think of salt/sugar? I've read that babies' organs are still nascent and require being given the adequate time to adjust to additives in food. I am an anxious ADHD mama and I've read that sugar early on can lead to ADHD and other issues. Any crunchy moms out there that can give me perspective? Thank you and Merry Christmas!

ADHD is genetic from what we have learned from our pediatric psychiatrist. I think it’s a matter of preference for what you are willing to feed your child. I don’t do added sugar or dye for my kids due to my 5 year old having adhd and having severe behaviors from dyes. I would speak to pediatrician about concerns before stressing yourself out (speaking from experience). You got this! Merry Christmas 🎄

Sugar is in so many things that in actuality it's very hard to fully avoid it for the entire first 2 years

As a mom with ADHD and autistic also , ADHD is genetic and some environmental things that might contribute also but it is probably mostly genetic . The brain is literally different. It is not caused by sugar. But high amounts of sugar can exacerbate symptoms.

I personally don't like taking hard lines on anything because I feel like it can backfire and turn counterproductive. I try to follow the 80/20 rule. At least 80% of her diet is salt and sugar free. But I don't shoot for 100%, it's too stressful

For salt, he eats what we eat so he eats seasoned food. He hasn't tried sugar/(ultra)process foods yet - I have been making all of his food and plan to do it for the fist two years! It's a lot not going to lie but I think it's worth it. After 2 years he will start eating sugar if he wants to but I want him to get used to eating natural/healthy food and lots of fruits. Just 7 more months! 😂

I make our daughter what we eat but I do a modified version with no salt/ sugar. Our pediatrician recommended waiting until 2 years old so I’m just following her counsel. Every now and then (Christmas or Thanksgiving) she may accidentally have something with salt in it—bread roll or a little turkey. But I think a few times is still setting her up for success compared to every meal/ everyday. It’s so confusing with differing info out there and differing opinions, but follow your mama intuition and consult your pediatrician! You know what’s best for your little babe and if you want to wait until 24 months, go for it! The one potato incident doesn’t have to change how you handle her future meals 🥰💕

Crunchy mama here 😂 My son had zero salt and sugar until ~14 months and after that he transitioned to our regular food. We don’t eat processed foods so our sugar comes from either honey, coconut, fruits and we use Himalayan salt. He will eat crap if we are around other kids and want to try what they are eating and Im in peace with that. I also had a crunchy mom and I wasn’t allowed to eat candy, ice cream and chips even on birthday parties and I cried so many times about that. As soon as I had my house I was impulsive eating to the point I would finish a ice cream tub in one sitting. Now I lead the healthy lifestyle but I allow my son to pick his experiences.
