BLW IDEAS

Our little one seems to have no interest in spoon feeds and wants finger foods. He’s had melty sticks but I’m so fearful of choking I’m putting myself off of the idea. Anyone who did BLW, what foods did you try first?

Our baby was the same. His favourite are omelette cups - basically cut up different veg to the size of half a corn kernel, put them into a muffin cup tin, pour over mixed egg, sprinkle a little bit of mild cheddar on top. When it’s done, you can cut them into finger size. It’s so crumbly and moist that it basically disintegrates in the kids mouth (and hands). Great vehicle for trying different veggies. For sweet stuff, I make banana pancakes with chia seeds. Make a batter, pour into a deep baking pan, pop different fruits on top, bake, cut into fingers. Again, it’s crumbly enough to not be as much of a choking risk, though the egg cups are easier Both of these things freeze really well too so easy to meal prep.

Vegetables first, then after a few days generally whatever we were having (strips or meat/fish & a vegetable). Solid starts have good information about how to prepare and serve different foods safely.

Toast, cucumber, omelette, pancakes, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower

She had broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, courgette, cucumber… for the first week we gave one ingredient at the time and from the second week onwards we started mixing a new ingredient with one that she had already tried
