Pouches

As irs Christmas and we are travelling I've used a few of the Ella's kitchen single ingredient pouches. My baby seems to like them far better than anything else I give her or have given her 😭 is it the texture or the taste? The ingredient list just says the vegetable + water so surely it isn't much sweeter than what I make?

Check the sugar content - lots of them are super high. Anything below 5g per 100g is generally considered okay. And for reference coke cola is 9g per 100g!

Good to know about the 5g, thank yoj Today she had a sweet potato one and it says 4.2g but I think that's similar to a standalone sweet potato?

Just checked and her other one (peas) was 0.6g so not sure it's the sweetness 😭 maybe just coincidence

Texture is very easy to have, the flavour is very homogenous and predictable and it’s very very easy to get into their mouth. Plus often they are sweeter than you might have just from cooking your own. Not necessarily a bad tool to use for travelling but yes it’s super easy for babies to start really preferring these sorts of things. If variety and whole foods is a priority I would consider spoon feeding the pouches on occasion, and mix that with feeding some lumpier mixes like a not entirely smooth banana, or some self feeding like an orange with the membranes off, or a plain breadstick. Those are all go to travelling foods for me as they can be eaten with minimal mess and don’t need lots of stuff to prepare (banana needs a tub and a fork but that’s about it!).

Thanks Penny! I'd say variety is definitely a priority so good to hear some extra ideas for food that's quick to stuff in your bag. Christmas is such a hit to the routine 🤣 x

My daughter also prefers the pouches not sure if it’s because they are smoother as when I make her food it tends to be more lumpy and she spits it out🤣 x
