I swapped all carbs to wholemeal/brown, like bread, rice, pasta. For breakfast I will have a slice of toast with scrambled eggs or porridge with berries and sugar free syrup, lunch I’ll have a sandwich and soup, or reduced sugar beans and toast and tea will just have most things we usually would, been making curries or stews a lot, the more protein I have the better. I snack on apples or Greek yogurt and berries. I was so so careful at first and had no sweet treats but recently I’ve tested out more and more and I can have the odd thing like a couple of biscuits or chocolates I just don’t go mad. My best tips would be get plenty of protein in each meal, drink plenty of water and walk as much as you can. They are all things that keep my readings down 😊 i was so upset when i got diagnosed but it’s been such a good kick up the arse to be healthier and I definitely want to carry this on after pregnancy because I feel so much better for it
A always eat your fiber and protein first and then your carbs last. You can still enjoy things in moderation. If I know I want a slice of pizza I’ll have a protein shake of wings first
Swap out potatoes for sweet potatoes, or maybe do root mash instead of normal mash. I’ve always been a lover of veg so I’d make sure I would eat my meat then veg then whatever carbs. Try to exercise a little each day if you’re not already as it’ll help with your sugars as well x
This week I switched from ‘no added sugar’ squash to water and Ive not had a single high reading since - boring I know but I didnt realise how much squash was affecting it! X
I’d highly recommend looking at this website, it’s got loads of recipes and helpful tips on https://www.gestationaldiabetes.co.uk/
