I’ve recently started giving my little one purees at 5 months to help with her reflux a little. Today she woke from her second nap and about 40 mins before her bottle I offered her a small bowl of puree and she ate it all! She still finished her full bottle but honestly we’re just winging it at the minute and playing it by ear x
My LG is 6 months on the 1st, we were told to start weaning early. I basically do puree (you start with one veg) they tend to spit it out at first and then they get used to the taste and texture and they start to eat it. Baby porridge was the first thing she ate properly followed by carrot. I also do baby led weaning, so you just prep the veg very soft, so if you touch it, it will mash in your hands, and then let them eat that
Thank you!! I also gave the Ella’s kitchen carrot yesterday - ate it all but I whilst it’s just porridge and abit of veg are we still doing same amount of bottles? Do we know when we’re supposed to drop them down is it when it’s more of a meal they’re eating? Confuses me so much, porridge is a meal to us adults haha
@Grace food shouldn’t replace milk before the age of 1 is the guidance so always offer milk before their food as that’s the most important part of their nutrients to get. Any food they eat is just an addition to their diet, not a replacement before the age of 1 :) x
@Grace in terms of milk I’m following what’s on the back of my formula tub. Gives you a guide on what they should be having each month. I guess it takes into consideration food too.
@Grace https://www.firststepsnutrition.org/eating-well-early-years this resource is amazing
Start by letting them suck peeled cold cucumbers. They can hold them and it soothes their gums. Very gentle on the stomach too
I’ve no idea how I’m meant to properly start this, if anyone has any tips please send them my way! I’ve started giving porridge along side still 5 bottles - but mostly takes 4 1/2 now, I give a decent amount so feels like probably a meal but I don’t think it’s got enough goodness in it to replace a bottle? I’m so confused and my health visitor is no where to be seen or contacted 🫠
