Weaning

So my baby is turning 6 months tomorrow (Sunday 29th) and we have been giving him banana porridge and a few of the pouches like pears e.g. from 4+ months. He doesn’t have any teeth yet so will it be safe to try and encourage him to try and start trying more solid foods like a piece of boiled broccoli or like a pit of bread etc or would I have to blend most things?

Teeth are actually irrelevant when it comes to starting solids 😊 their gums are really strong. Solid Starts has an app with a database telling you how to safely prepare food based on baby’s age. Even from 6 months they can eat most things if prepared correctly. Just no honey until 12 months or cow’s milk as a drink (can be an ingredient) or things like whole nuts and some other choking hazards that can’t be safely modified.

BLW is actually the best thing to do. There is a page called Solid Starts, which tells you how to safely serve solids to them appropriately to their age x

Also it is best to start with savoury and not sweet things by the way.

They don’t need teeth at all x
