Antibiotics

At which times do I give antibiotics to my toddler if I have to give then 4 times a DAY (there is no need to wake a child for antibiotics). He wakes up at 9am. Could I give it every 4 hours? On the back it says give every 6 hours but when I do that I only end up giving it 3 times a day.

To do it 4 times a day, you would have to give it at just before 6am, then just before 12pm, just before 6pm & then just before midnight to fit in all 4 doses.

@Rachel what if he’s sleeping at 6am?

You will just have to wake him up, I'm afraid. He needs to take them if they are going to work & make him better.

Agreed, he needs to have them, if he was admitted they would be waking him through the night to do it if needed!x

When it was 4 times we gave it every 4 hours but it didn't say give every 6.

@Jo exactly it’s easier if I just give it every 4 hours cos that would mean he gets to have it 4 times a day. You’re not supposed to wake a child up for antibiotics because overnight they don’t need it. The doctor just said give it 4 times a day she didn’t specify how many hours to leave in between.

Just do every 4 hours then. It worked.

When our little girl was in hospital they gave her antibiotics through the night, as it had to be spaced out correctly. When we’ve done it we’ve just syringed it in to her mouth while she’s asleep we didn’t wake her, but she’s never been fussed about taking medicine so maybe that helps xxx
