Inhixa injections

I was prescribed inhixa injections following an elective c section and I’m now on day 10 of taking them. Before my c section I knew I was going to have to take them but every doctor and consultant said I score a VTE of 2 and would only have to take them for 10 days. 1 point for elective section and 1 point for my BMI (my BMI was 39 at booking). However when I left the hospital they gave me 6 weeks cause they went off my BMI at the time of birth which would have been above 40 so an extra VTE point was added but of course I’ll be heavier cause it’s including my baby and once given birth it would go down🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️ I gave birth in a different trust to my midwife and my midwife said if I gave birth in their trust I’d only have to take them for 7 days and the BMI should be calculated from booking not the end of pregnancy as per the VTE guidance. I feel like BMI is such and old way of measuring and I’m 12days post op and give or take just as mobile as I was before the surgery (without over doing it) but I’m so conflicted on if it take them for 6 weeks or to stop at 10 days. Anyone else has this issue? Or stopped the course of injections sooner? please note I know the importance of taking them and I have been taking them but it just seems silly to take them if I don’t need to. They aren’t nice to take. Any advice would be appreciated.

So I’m going to answer this from a slightly different angle based on my experience - I had a course of 10 day injections after my birth. 3 days after they finished my leg started to hurt and 4 days after that a whopping great clot was discovered at the top of my leg. By that point my leg was so painful I could barely move. I’m now on a course of 3 months of injections at a higher dose, twice a day, with the possibility of extending another 3 months after depending on how my body has reacted. It’s also taken nearly 3 weeks for my leg to stop hurting enough to be able to go for short walks (yesterday was my first day leaving the house - woohoo!). As annoying as the injections are, knowing what I know now, I’d have preferred the 6 week course x

I had a similar experience, my bmi was at like 36 the day I gave birth, it was an emergency c section so I didn’t realise the injections were a thing, I am 5’11 and built like a brick wall, but the bmi says I am obese, the rude nurse that weighed me in hospital kept saying I was obese and would need to take two injections a day for at least 6 weeks she made me feel awful, then at discharge the doctor had said and the prescription was for a 10 day course, such a headache, I would talk to a midwife if you’re concerned about the dosage and the contradicting info because i almost always differing opinions from different midwives and nurses. X

The evidence for VTE prophylaxis in this setting is weak. I stopped mine after several days but I’m scoring a 1. I was up and about, no family history and normal BMI so I felt happy to stop on my own accord and I’m also of medical background- perhaps have a chat to the midwife about stopping early but ultimately nobody will tell you to in case something happens.
