We loosely followed the method in the Oh Crap! book. Basically it's naked from the waist down and at home for the first few days. Offer for them to use the potty every 30 mins and clean up accidents without any shame. Then slowly work towards putting clothes on, starting without underwear as it feels very close to a nappy.
With my little brother (will probs do the same with my son when he’s older) we got a big cheap pack of cars for like £5? and everytime he used the potty we gave him w little car toy out the pack as a reward, then eventually we slowly fizzled out the cars and he just used it xx
The Dr. Becky guide worked really well for my son. He was just under 2.5. No rewards, no taking to the potty at timed intervals - big focus on them learning to recognize the feeling that they need to go.
I waited until my daughter was 2 years 10 months old, so really ready. Then we talked about what would be happening, she picked out some big girl knickers and then we went for it. I didn’t do rewards, timers, making her sit on a potty etc. Basically she peed herself and hated it so went to the toilet after that! I think the main thing is readiness and not trying too early.
With my first, I started potty training her at three years old that’s just when she was ready. I started with showing her potty training videos and even bought her a little potty training toy so that way she could use it on her baby dolls. I’ve been slowly started introducing her to the toilet and setting her on it and telling her to go pee pee or poo poo. It’s a slow transition. I also put her in straight underwear during the day, they are going to make messes, but they are going to be uncomfortable and eventually they will start telling you they need to go potty
