There’s guidance on formulas that say xx amount per feed, age, how many bottles they should have per day but babies are so different I wouldn’t rely on that massively. Most of the guidance I’ve heard from HV around feeds and ensuring they’re getting enough is by making sure baby is gaining weight, plenty wet and dirty nappies. My babies usually on 7oz bottles, between 6/7 a day, but if he’s going through leaps he can end up taking less than half his bottle for feeds, and this lasts for a week or so before he goes back to normal. From my experience upping an Oz didn’t change how often my little one fed, I always feed to cues but generally it’s every 3 hours. Have you tried changing teat size? I remember my baby got bored or fell asleep during feeds because the flow was too small, so upping test size helped quite a lot. Might be worth trying that? X
Going through something similar. Upped the teat size and things did improve for me.
My baby is exactly the same! He used to finish 5oz bottles so easily but for the last 2 weeks he never finishes it in one go! He’ll only drink about 2/3oz and then sometimes finish the rest an hour later! My friend said it could be a sign of teething! I want to up the teat to a size 2 but he’s quite often sick on a size 1 let alone size 2! X
It depends on formula tbh. Some are more caloric than others. On formula it should say what’s the average amount is like for the age. So for example we’re on Kendamil organic and average at 3m is 750 ml, her avg is 726 ml. She’s supposed to be doing that with 5 bottles but it takes ua 8 bottles. So we do a bottle every 2.5 hours or so. Seems like it might be time to size up the flow of the bottle nipple?
