Whole Milk?

My baby turns 1 on January 15th and she doesn’t seem to want formula anymore she is rejecting it by puking every-time she has it now but has no issue when she’s eating food or having water/juice i even tried a little bit of whole milk and nothing she didn’t like any of that only when she has her formula now? should i call her doctor and let them know and see what they think to do? Also Should i start with whole milk or something easier on the stomach i dont wanna cause her too many issues cause she already has had so much stomach issues…

Babies can not have whole milk until they turn a year. Only breastmilk or formula as main source of nutrition for the first year. Starting her on it before a year can mess her stomach up. I would call you Dr and see what they say

I mean it’s only 15 days away I doubt it will make much difference. Many people at this point start weaning onto cows milk either by gradually mixing with formula or using in porridge etc ready for the formula to stop. X

@Abby I mean she’s gonna be 1 in like 15 days, I don’t think it has to be exactly 1 years old to the T, plus she eats more food than she does formula/breastmilk anyways

@Kimmylou That’s what i figured she’s only 15 days away from being one there’s no harm in just giving her the food she already eats and some whole milk but what do i do if she can’t handle the whole milk do i switch to like a soy?

@Melinna it doesn't matter. It's not considered safe

I did start by adding whole milk to Some formula to get him used to it then eventually after like 5 days of this just went straight for whole milk on its own. Maybe could try that? X

@Melinna my little boy can’t have diary atm still and we are just starting the milk ladder so he has alpro soya growing up milk in his porridge etc and will be having that when his formula runs out. He will be 1 on the 20th of Jan. I’m from the UK and here we don’t even have to give cows milk if they don’t want it aslong as they are getting enough calcium a day from food such as cheese, yoghurts etc

@Jasmine Yeah i figured i should do half and half and see if she’ll keep it down, i doubt she’ll like the taste of whole milk by itself lol🤣

I started weaning my baby about two weeks ago (her bday is jan 3rd) and shes done great. She went from being ebf to whole milk and adjusted fast. Do what you think is best!

Yea & try an alternative like oat milk… I never recommend soy cause some things are still a little complex for ur lo to break done fully… my baby girl will be one on the 28th of next month but she doesn’t drink anything but breastmilk & water. She likes coconut water with puréed fruit for taste as well. I won’t be using cows milk for her to drink but I love the different oat milks & I actually buy a good chocolate milk as well it’s made frompea protein, my 8 year old loves it! We haven’t had cows milk in over 5-6 years & wouldn’t change it at all!

@Domo✨ with regards to oat milk I have read they are very high in sugar content leaving babies full but with no extra nutritional value? We will have to use non dairy options until he has completed the milk ladder due to allergies and once completed and he can tolerate it, I won’t actually be giving him cows milk I prefer goats milk but in the meantime we need to use dairy free, so recommendations would be great! What are the pea-based milks? I haven’t heard of those? Thanks x

My hv said I could put my girl on whole milk 2 weeks before she was 1. She’s one in a weeks time tomorrow. She said as long as she’s not having reactions to formula she’ll be fine. She eats stuff containing dairy to. All I did was half formula and half cows milk to introduce it to her for a few days until my formula ran out. I would never tell you what to do but that’s what worked for us. Deffo get in touch with your hv or gp and see what they advise as that may reassure you more, I am in the uk so their advice may be different from ours xx

@Abby but honestly she’s 15 days away not 4 months away … the body doesn’t just change the same day they turn 1

@Ellis the pea based milk is called Ripple. I get it off Amazon fresh. Go try it out!

yall need to stop the "babies cannot have milk until 1yr". its a good guideline to follow, but you are not the childs doctor Lol. ppl said the same to me on here a few weeks ago, and i went to my girls pediatrician and he told me he was surprised i didnt start it sooner. she turns a year in a couple days.

@Abby not true most the doctors I had started my babies on milk by 10months old I always asked and they always reassured me it was time now with my 6th child I’m more less have not and he’s has sips of it but afraid to remove him off it cause he also eats his bottles with oatmeal

@Asia how did you wean? My baby is ebf and I started mixing breastmilk with whole milk 2 weeks ago, but want to fully stop breastfeeding

@Domo✨ fab thanks & happy new year ladies! X

According to solid starts, you can start incorporating whole milk into baby’s diet around 11 months however not as their main source of nutrients (basically not a formula/breast milk replacement). No more than 1-2 oz a day for baby to get used to the taste. You can put it in an open cup or incorporate it into foods like oatmeal. We’re starting to do this for my 11 month old.

@Bria omg im so sorry i just saw this, but we would just give her an ounce at a time with her snacks. she started drinking water from a straw cup at 6 months so instead of water during snack time i just did 1 oz of whole milk for about a week and then once her body and poops adjusted i just increased the amount to 4oz 🫶🏽 my baby kind of weaned herself off of the boob it took about a week but she just stopper having the urge to nurse when she started to really eat solids
