Refusing to use the potty

My daughter is only 2 but she loves the potty. She will sit there all day and as soon as she pees she says potty and runs to the bathroom. However no amount of sitting there makes her want to pee. I think the few times she has peed on the potty was by accident. Despite the excitement and praise she can't go ON the potty on purpose. Suggestions?

At first, my daughter used to do the same thing. Now that she’s 3, I have an alarm set for every hour for her to go potty. She’s familiar with the potty alarms. I always ask her if she has to go potty. She’ll tell me yes and then we go in the bathroom and potty. Do you have any alarms set to take her potty every hour? I would do that. I’m not sure if your daughter is talking yet but if not, I would wait until she gets a little older before asking her if she needs to go potty. Potty training is a process that can be frustrating at times. Don’t give up, you’ve got this mama. 😊🫶🏽

She is talking! We were doing timers for much shorter intervals to ask if she needed to potty and letting her choose. Maybe I'll start with 40 minutes since I know she can hold it that long after drinking a bunch of water in the morning. And you have her sit every time until she goes?

Yes ma’am. I normally let her sit there for 10 minutes each time until she goes. Sometimes, it’s a shorter time frame because she’ll go as soon as she sits down. If she’s drinking any fluids, I would sit an alarm or timer for her to go every 30 minutes. When you get in the bathroom and she’s sitting there, you can set a timer for 10 minutes. If she doesn’t go at that time, it could be because either she doesn’t have to go or she went in her pullup or training panties already.
