Miconazole gel

My LG has oral thrush and has had two courses of nystan it's still there I've seen there's a miconazole gel but I've heard it's out of stock, when we have seen the doctor and I told him this he said there would be a chemist somewhere that had it, when I went to my normal chemist they said it's been out of stock 2 years 😑 has anyone been able to get hold of any? Or something else they have tried for oral thrush she is nearly 5 months Thanks

Not really what you want to hear, I work in community pharmacy and you won't be able to find it in any pharmacies. The only brand is daktarin oral gel and I'm afraid it has been discontinued (at least in the uk). You may potentially still be able to get it online, I've had a little look and none that i know are definitely trustworthy stock it so I guess it's up to you if you wanted to try ordering it. There was a big tube that was available only on prescription for a while, although I never saw it that often and have been on mat leave since August so not sure if that's been discontinued too but if you're desperate it may be worth phoning local pharmacies to see if they can get that one and if they do ask gp for a prescription. There is nothing else over the counter, there are a few other prescription anti fungal that I believe you can get in liquid form for infants such as fluconazole but obviously would be down to the Dr if they think it's suitable/necessary (again unsure on stock sit at moment)

They did check to see if they had the bigger one I think she said it was 80ml or something like that and she said that wasn't in stock either, I don't really trust some of the online stock like you said, maybe I just need a longer course of nystan for her, hopefully the doctor will change it tomorrow for me, it's ashame doctors can't check online to see what's in stock and what's not. I appreciate your reply thank you ☺️

I thought that might be the case but thought it was worth mentioning! Hopefully they will sort it, if they do prescribe something a bit different it may need ordering in for the afternoon/next day as a lot if smaller pharmacies wont keep unusual stock unless they have a dr that prescribes it a lot. But to be honest I think at this point if they prescribe something different it's worth waiting for it. Really is a shame, would make it easier for everybody! Not a problem 😊 sorry it's not much help , I hope you get it sorted x

If u are breastfeeding you also need treating for thrush aswell as LO
