Yes that is right. Your annual leave plus bank holidays are accrued to use post maternity leave and can be carried over into the following year.
If your job would normally give you bank holidays, then you are entitled to them. If you aren’t normally given them (for example work in retail or hospitality and your contract doesn’t include them), then you don’t get them
I’m officially starting my maternity from the 1st of April but I’m using my holidays before so my last day will be the 21st of Feb. I get 28 days including bank holidays x
Yes you still get bank holidays… not everywhere will let you take them before they are accrued though… I took mine at the end & then used some days to go back part time for a few weeks which worked well
Yep!
Amazing! Thank you ladies! So helpful! I feel like I’ll add about 5 weeks to the end of my maternity leave and then maybe 2 just to keep me going until I break up. Mentally I’ve already checked out ! lol
When I went back from maternity leave with my daughter I had something like 40 days annual leave to take. Instead of taking them in bulk I’ve gone down to 4 days a week by using 1 day of A/L a week. I get an extra day with my daughter but get paid full time! X
So legally you don’t have to take all your holiday this year, whatever you don’t take they have to transfer to next year. Which you can either take to extend your maternity leave (I.e you’re not back to work but you will be paid because you are ‘on holiday’) or you can use it to help have a phrased part time return (using your holidays for the days you aren’t working)! If you wanted to use your holiday this year, you can use it to go on maternity without your maternity leave actually starting (until baby arrives). So for example if you finished work and baby was born 10 days later, then you could have used 10 days of holiday instead of Mat leave.
