Feeling let down by midwives

I had a midwife appointment today and brought up some symptoms I've had that I know can be related to preeclampsia but I had brushed them off as other things or having reasons for them. She checked my BP and urine and they were okay but still wanted to send me to triage just to be monitored for a bit and for preeclampsia bloods. She took my bloods for me and gave me them to take over as it would be faster and I was going there anyway. I started walking over while she phoned triage to say I was coming and they told her it's not an obstetric issue and I need to see a GP, and to go home and rest. Essentially they wouldn't see me. So I dropped off the blood anyway and went home and now I'm lay in bed and we will see what my bloods bring back. Feel like I've been let down and tossed to the side

Do they have a maternity advice phone line where you are so you can call to double check what’s happened? If it’s maternity related then surly the GP would send you back to the midwife? I’d be minded to go to triage if it’s a walk in service or ask to speak to your midwife to see if they can find out/ understand what has happened and what the plan is. Sorry you’ve experienced this. If it’s worrying you, keep going until it’s clearer what’s happening x

@Catherine The maternity advice line is the triage where I am. Even my midwife didn't understand, and tried to push them to monitor me for a bit and they wouldn't. I have headaches, blurred vision, pain under my ribs and swollen feet and a constant dull ache in one leg. Id brushed each one off for various reasons like needing new glasses, indigestion etc but when you put them all together it does paint a worrying picture and even though my BP and urine are okay I think being monitored would have given me a bit of peace of mind because I was really worried and my midwife could see that but triage wouldn't see me

Could you go to a walk in centre? Maybe a different hospital if possible?

@Alice unfortunately no walk in centre or other hospital with a triage unit within a reasonable distance. I've gone home and got myself in bed and feeling okay now. I'll check my blood results as soon as they come through and go from there

If you’re still having these symptoms after your lie down, I would ring up the maternity advice line & say you’re currently experiencing the symptoms & see what they say then? Failing that, could you possibly call 111 & discuss with them as they could send you to maternity or the out of hours GP x

I’m from the same area as you, ring triage and demand to be seen. Even say it runs in your family if you have to just to be seen. I was brushed off a lot in my last pregnancy it’s getting worse, definitely ring them and don’t let them say no. Even turn up if you have to chick x

@chelsea I was literally there at the Door to the triage ward and they told me it wasn't necessary. I'm feeling okay right now just exhausted. I'll chase up my bloods in the morning and go from there. Baby is having a good little wiggle and im not in any unusual pain so I'm happy to stay in my little bed nest. Been here for about 3 -4 hours now 🤣

That’s absolutely ridiculous that they wouldn’t see you of course it’s an obstetric issue!! This really infuriates me as I got pre eclampsia around 30 weeks pregnant and ended up delivering early because my signs were ignored for so long! Please please push to be listened to and heard x

Say you are feeling sharp pains, they will definitely see you then x

Yikes. Run! That is ridiculous if you have another hospital in your area you should choose to give birth there. Where I am you don’t even have to ask you ring them up and tell them you are coming in to be checked and they will always see you. Let’s be real the GP will only send you to triage! Outrageous honestly x

Thats not something for the GP to deal with and is very much for the obstetric team to look into
