New manager whilst on mat leave?

I found out today my manager is leaving and I will be getting a new manager once they’ve recruited, will most likely be an external hire and I don’t think there will be a crossover period between them starting and my current manager leaving. I am on mat leave until June. Will the new manager reach out to me to introduce themselves whilst I’m still on mat leave as I will need to be arranging KIT days etc. Feels like it will be super awkward! Has anyone been in this situation before?

Currently going through the same process although slightly different. We have 2 managers in the team & mine is also on Mat leave until September (I go back in June). They have got Mat cover for my manager however have been told by colleagues that the Mat cover does not have managerial responsibilities. I’ll be going to the other manager to discuss KIT days or failing that, will talk to my managers manager x

My team was made redundant whilst I’m on mat leave and some of us were moved to a new team so I have a new manager. He told my colleague that if he speaks to me he should let me know to reach out as legally he wasn’t allowed to reach out to me about work whilst on mat leave. I reached out to my new manager and had a catch up with him and arranged my KIT days, it was super relaxed. Not sure what your company policy is but you’re better off reaching out to your new manager as I was told legally my new manager couldn’t reach out to me whilst I was still on mat leave.

Thank you both. I forgot to mention that my manager’s manager will also be new to the company, not yet started, so I don’t have a relationship with them either. Feels very daunting the thought of going back to a new manager who has a new manager also so feel like I’ll have to prove myself all over again to management when it’s going to be hard enough re-adjusting to working life as a mum 😟 I do have a close relationship with a team member so will just have to stay in contact with her and hope for the best

I feel your pain! I felt the same! I go back to work in April and it kinds of feel like all the work I did before maternity is now thrown out the window because my old manager now gone and I don’t know the new manager so it’s like starting all over again, but now with a little one😩 but I think I’m fortunate in that my new manager said his daughter had her first child last year also so has helped him understand the process more and what’s it’s like. You should also look at it like it works in your favour as your new manager has a new manager too so your all essentially starting from scratch and great time to build with each other. Good luck! x
