No I’ve just looked it up one parent has to be working at minimum of 16 hours a week and earning over a certain amount a year so I think he can apply as it can be either parents doesn’t have to be both working one parent can be working it’s the UC part I don’t understand but thank you helping x🙂
https://www.childcarechoices.gov.uk/15-and-30-hours-childcare-support/working-families/eligibility This talks about "each" parent needing to earn over the amount/hours. This is if you live together. The other funding eg via UC or other benefits may be different though, I don't know anything about that x
We're in a similar position and it's confusing! For the 15 hours you both need to be working and earning a certain amount each week. To claim the 85% with UC I think it's the same situation but on here it says you might still be eligible if your on UC and earning less than a certain amount a year. https://www.gov.uk/help-with-childcare-costs/free-childcare-2-year-olds-claim-benefits?step-by-step-nav=f237ec8e-e82c-4ffa-8fba-2a88a739783b It might be worth speaking to your UC coach or citizens advice to work through your options. Maternity action explain everything well and also do free advice. https://maternityaction.org.uk/advice/money-for-parents-and-babies/#Help_with_childcare_costs I'm not sure if claiming maternity allowance would mean you would be eligible for the childcare help?
I think for the working parents funding you both need to be working a minimum number of hours a week so you may no longer be eligible for that if you aren't working anymore? I don't think he can apply, as they would check you are working too. You may be able to claim some funding through other means eg UC, I'm sure someone will be able to explain that part 😊
