Fertility tests

Hey I’m new to this group and just after some advice re fertility tests please. I’m soon to be 38, we have a 3.5 year old and been trying for number 2 for 2 years, last year had 4 miscarriages. Now we think it’s time to do some tests, some on the nhs and some private. Have had bloods done to check thyroid/hormones/amh levels and antibodies that can cause miscarriage. Waiting for those results, waiting for a scan referral too. Did anyone who has been having miscarriages have these tests and the docs find anything that can be causing it? We might pay to have my husbands sperm checked too, but is this even something that can have anything to do with miscarriages? I’m taking folate, coq10 and omega3… and hubby is taking the well man conception vits. Is there anything else we can be taking to boost chances. I’m almost scared to fall pregnant again as I just can’t bare to loose another baby. Thanks in advance for any advice.

100% look at male factors too - genetic conditions that cause miscarriages can occur from poor sperm quality.

Did they refer you to the recurrent miscarriage clinic? I am in a similar boat. 38 with a 3.5 year old and been trying 2 years also. Had three miscarriages in total. NHS results didn’t flag up anything and sperm seems fine, ultrasound was a 4 minute abdominal scan so I wasn’t surprised it didn’t flag up anything but I repeated it with a private fertility clinic and all looked normal. It’s very often unexplained unfortunately, which makes it all really hard 😭 I was really disappointed with the care offered on the nhs and found the recurrent miscarriage clinic to be a joke to be honest, but maybe you will have more success.

Hey Nerida, sorry you’re going through this too 😔 I haven’t been refered to recurrent miscarriage clinic as such, but my gp sent a letter to gynae to see if they will scan me. It’s really interesting downloading the nhs app so you can see all your notes that the gp writes, the letter is so blasé! Going to see a private gynaecologist in a couple of weeks and hopefully they can reccomend some test. Feel like private is the only way with this sort of thing sadly:( fingers crossed this year brings our rainbow babies! Just never imagined this big of an age gap:(

I hope seeing a gyne privately helps. I’m thinking of doing the same. I’ve had a consult for ivf and are probably going to go down this route. I know what you mean - I alternate between feeling heart broken about the age gap getting bigger by the day to feeling that it’s never going to happen. My first three pregnancies were conceived first cycle trying, my fourth took a year and it’s been almost a year and I can’t get pregnant again. I really hope you can get some answers - it’s really tough x
