Weaning

My little boy is pretty much exclusively breast fed (will be 10 months in just over a week) and has a bowl of porridge (some mornings if not toast) and approximately half a pouch a day with some puffs and wafers in between. He doesn’t really seem overly fussed by the pouches and half a pouch feels like an accomplishment compared to his few mouthfuls he used to have. I still give him between 8-10 feeds a day which is a lot but they’re between 3-8 mins long (which has been the same since newborn) Any advice for exciting foods? Feel a bit deflated from hearing what other mums are giving there little ones and I know I shouldn’t be comparing but it’s hard not to

We do baby led weaning so my baby has exactly what we have with modifications or I make him something just for him

Breakfast - french toast cut into strips. Omelette. Toast with cream cheese or a bit of puree for 'jam'. Pancakes many ways - shredded carrot, added blueberries, with silken tofu instead of egg, made with sweet potato as a base. Lunch - whatever I'm having modified, often a soup if I'm on my own Dinner - bits of shredded lamb potatoes, broccoli Steamed salmon with rice and asparagus

A bit of grated cheese on top of savoury foods is often a good gateway food. A lot of fresh fruit like strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, oranges, watermelon and mango.

For us the way the food is served and the atmosphere is just as important. If you put a full plate of food in front of her she will just play with it. We put one item on her tray and essentially ignore her. She’ll explore it and eat it then we give he another bit. We have a conversation, sing along to the radio or eat ourselves. If we sit in front of her and watch her she won’t eat a thing. If we’re out or with others she will be the perfect angel and eat everything. We do nothing special porridge or weetabix and fruit for breakfast. Toast with beans, eggs, cheese, pork loin (lower in salt than ham) or cream cheese with cucumber or tomatoes and fruit. Dinners are some variation of ours. We started with lumpy purées like salmon mash & carrot, chicken mash & broccoli but she moved on quite quickly to normal foods. Penne pasta with cream cheese & broccoli is her favourite. Tonight she had pulled pork and cauliflower cheese. Yesterday was leftover turkey, wedges and broccoli
