Being pregnant on a fixed term contract?

I am not pregnant but me and my partner are really wanting a second. My job only takes me till next March but how does it work if you were on maternity leave and a contract ended? Is there some statutory government pay that takes over or is it nothing.

If you’re UK, as long as you’ve paid your national insurance and working through some period thing they have, then you’ll qualify for maternity allowance or statutory mat pay x

You have to just be in employment up until/at a certain week in your pregnancy.

What @Jess said . I was in this situation with my first and I got SMP.

You get 39 weeks smp or ma

@Jess and is that then funded by the government instead of the job since that contracts ended ?

Yes, you’ll have to apply online yourself and fill out some forms and post them off- I have to do this being self employed and part time on a 0 hour contract else where x

@Jess was it an ordeal to do or was it quite easy x

It’s not too bad, there’s instructions to follow. Once you’ve applied they send you a pack out
