Hey, my daughter has just turned one and we hired a sleep consultant because her sleep was so bad. She is bottle fed but we fed and cuddled her to sleep every night and she would always wake up and end up sleeping with me. Within 4 days of sleep training my daughter was putting herself to sleep. Our consultant said to us that as my daughter didn’t want milk most of the time during the night and purely wanted the comfort to cut the milk feed out completely. Not sure if she would’ve said something different if she was hungry during the night but at that age they prob are feeding out of habit. She said to us to give her a sleepy snack like a banana in between bed and dinner to fill the gap and my daughter hasn’t woken once for a feed in weeks now x
We did Ferber quite early - at 5 months but still fed in the night and still do some nights. For so long our LO woke between 10 & 12 then 4 & 6 so it was quite clear when her wakes were for feeds. Our issue was always going to sleep anyway rather than excessive wakes. You might actually find that him sending himself off to sleep ends the night feeds anyway. If his deeds are sporadic then decide on a rule and stick to it e.g. if he wakes within 4 hours then you won’t feed. Drop me a message if you have any questions, it can be confusing and difficult to make decisions on what to do in the heat of the moment.
