For reference, I exclusively pumped until 16 weeks. My baby rarely took more than 4oz of BM. He's now formula only, tub says he should have x5 7oz bottles, he has more like x8 5oz bottles 🙈 but he's happy, healthy, gaining weight etc so none of it really matters haha
Okay thanks! So he’s alright on his 7 going on 8oz of breastmilk?🙈 no need to cut him down?
If he's happy and not being sick, carry on carrying on! I found it was better to look at the overall volume drank in a day rather than the size of the bottles At the end of the day, if he's hungry, he'll eat. If you over do it, he'll either leave it or bring it up 😂
The rule of thumb is they need approx 150ml breast milk per kilo throughout the day. So a 3kg baby will need 450ml. That's what I was told. But it doesn't matter if your little is a couple of hundred either side of this as long. As they are gaining weight and having wet nappies etc My 8 month old only has 4 bottles a day but nearly every bottle is above 7oz He's been like that since week 2... They said I was overfeeding him at first with his big bottles but he likes more milk less often it's his way
I always fed my baby as much he would take. My son is a milk monster and he was having 8oz by 4 months. He never went over 10oz though
I adjusted my bottle amounts according to baby’s appetite - he’s at 6.5mos now and takes anywhere from 6-8ozs at a time so now i make sure to give him 7-8ozs in each. If he’s super hungry and finishes the 8 and wants more I’ll give him more.
The nutritional makeup of breastmilk changes dependent on what the baby requires so it's normal for the volume to stay somewhere around 4/5oz. With formula fed babies, the nutrients stays the same, thus baby needs more as the grow. As with all things 'baby', there are no hard and fast rules. Some BF babies will need more or less than others. Some bottle fed babies won't ever take more than 5oz but will take more bottles a day than that tub 'recommends'. You just do what you and your baby need to 🧡
